0.00 reviews

Memilon BIO Crete is certified organic extra virgin olive oil from a single estate in Phaistos, Crete, made only from early harvest Koroneiki olives picked while the fruit is still green. A high polyphenol organic olive oil, measured at 810 mg/kg polyphenols in its lab analysis. It is cold extracted below 27°C (80°F) and bottled away from oxygen and light, so the polyphenols and the peppery bite reach your kitchen intact. Free shipping on every order.

01

Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil from a Single Estate in Crete

Grown under full EU organic certification (DIO, GR-BIO-01) on our estate in Phaistos, in the Messara plain of southern Crete. This is a single estate olive oil: 100% Koroneiki, no synthetic inputs anywhere in the grove, and never blended with another origin. One estate, one variety, one harvest in every bottle.

02

Early Harvest Koroneiki, Picked While Still Green

Harvested at the front of the season, when the fruit is still green, and cold extracted below 27°C (80°F). The yield is lower and the oil is bolder: more peppery, more herbaceous, with a higher phenolic load than oil from riper fruit.

03

High Polyphenol Organic Olive Oil, Lab Tested

Organic certification covers the grove; the lab covers the oil. 810 mg/kg polyphenols in its lab analysis, tested by Multichrom Lab in Crete. 0.18% free acidity, under a quarter of the 0.8% maximum for extra virgin olive oil. K-values are recorded on every batch and the complete lab analysis is published against its LOT number, so you can read our lab analysis before you buy.

04

Rested Under Nitrogen, Bottled in Glass

Rested under nitrogen, then bottled away from oxygen and light into a 1 L glass bottle. Glass is inert, so it adds nothing to the taste of this certified organic olive oil. Each bottle is packed in a reinforced carton for shipping, so the oil arrives as it left the mill.

05

A Finishing Oil, First

Intense enough that a small pour carries a whole dish: over pulses, grilled vegetables, fresh cheese or simply bread. It cooks well, but it shows more of its character raw. An organic Greek olive oil from one estate and one variety, with a lab report for every batch.

06

Is organic olive oil better than non-organic?

Organic and extra virgin answer two different questions. Extra virgin is a quality grade, set by lab and taste tests, with free acidity at or below 0.8%. Organic describes how the olives are grown: the BIO Crete grove is certified by DIO (GR-BIO-01) and farmed without synthetic inputs. This oil carries both: its lab analysis at Multichrom Lab in Crete measured 0.18% acidity and 810 mg/kg polyphenols.

07

Is Memilon BIO Crete cold pressed and unrefined?

It is unrefined and cold extracted. Like every extra virgin olive oil, it is obtained by mechanical means only, with no refining and no solvents, and it is extracted below 27°C (80°F). EU labelling rules reserve first cold pressed for oil made on a traditional press; oil separated below 27°C by centrifugation or percolation is labelled cold extracted, which is the term we use.

08

Can I check the lab results for my bottle?

Yes. Every bottle carries a LOT number and QR code on its back label, and the LOT number traces back to its harvest date, bottling date and lab report. Enter your LOT number here to see the acidity, polyphenols and K-values of your batch once your bottle arrives; before you buy, you can read our published lab analyses.
